Vaikãši (mid-May to mid-June) Visãkam (nakshatra) is observed as the birthday of Šri Subrahmanya, Who incarnated for the purpose of getting rid of the two demonic brothers Soorapadma and Tãrakāsura. At the request of Gods, Lord Šiva emitted six sparks from His third eye, which turned into six boys, who were raised by six Krittika maidens. They were merged into one body with six heads (Shanmukha) by the loving hug of His mother Šri Pārvati who gave Him a divine spear for both valor and wisdom so that he could kill the two demonic brothers. His consorts are Sri Valli and Sri Devayani and His auspicious days are Tuesdays and Krittika nakshatra days.
